FG, Malaysia group signs MoU on Jatropha processing


The Federal Government plans to diversify the economy got a boost with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Federal Ministry of Environment and a Malaysian group, Bionas Agropolitants in Abuja.

Recall that an Environment Dialogue with the theme “Diversification of the Economy- The Role of Jatropha” was held in October, 2016 with the objectives of developing a national strategy for the processing and marketing of Jatropha for sustainable development, with a clear monitoring and environment framework.

At the signing of the MoU, the Minister of State for Environment Usman Jibril, said the move is part of President Muhhamadu Buhari’s agenda to move Nigeria away from oil dependent economy.

He promised institutional backing for investors bringing value and appealed for the transfer of technology to Nigerian’s.

The minister further said that the Federal Ministry of Environment is geared towards promoting sustainable and clean environment, free of population as a result of human activities.
