Following rising rate of building collapse in the country coupled with the need to urgently address this worrisome development, the Federal Government has been urged to put in place, laws that would checkmate the activities of owners of collapsed buildings.

The Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Bomarah Group, Hajia Bola Muse, made the call in a chat with Vanguard in her office at Apapa.

According to her, the absence of the National Building Code, NBC, has turned the construction sub-sector of the economy to ’an all-comers affair’ where unqualified persons just foray into.

She pointed out that the “slap on the wrist” sanction being meted out to owners of collapsed structures in the country has continued to embolden some developers to continue to engage in untoward activities thereby endangering the lives of people.

Muse, a realtor, appealed to members of the National Assembly to revisit without further delay, deliberations on the draft bill of the NBC currently before the lawmakers.

According to her, the bill which has passed the second reading should be brought to the front burner for expeditious passage in order to strengthen the construction industry.

The Bomarah Group boss also decried the menace of the Apapa Tin-can gridlock which she said is killing businesses, adding that the contractor handling the project, AG Dangote Construction Limited should provide alternative routes in order to reduce the current nightmare being experienced on that axis.

She said that the July 2018 completion date promised by AG Dangote was “too far for comfort,” pointing out that most businesses in that region may collapse before that date.

Muse noted that the number of man-hour being wasted on that road as result of the gridlock was telling negatively on their business and called for urgent solution to the problem.
